The American Valor Foundation is a privately funded, non-profit foundation established in 2014, whose mission includes awarding annual higher education scholarships to individuals who are active or retired military or first responders OR whose family members are active or retired military or first responders and who wish to continue their pursuit of higher education. Scholarships will be awarded to those with a desire to continue their education in a field that will have a positive impact on Community, State, and Country.

Scholarships will be awarded to those with a desire to continue their education in a field that will have a positive impact on Community, State, and Country.
Eligibility Requirements and Rules Governing the Award of Scholarship Money
The Chris Kyle Memorial Scholarship shall be administered by the American Valor Foundation Board of Directors (“Committee”) in a manner consistent with the following criteria and guidelines.
A. The eligibility requirements which an individual must meet to qualify for scholarship monies are:
a. The applicant must be active or retired Veteran or First Responder, OR
b. The applicant must be an immediate family member of an active or retired Veteran or First Responder. Immediate family member will be defined as parent, sibling, or grandparent.
c. The applicant must become and remain a full-time student for at least two terms or semesters at an accredited university, junior or senior college, in the year in which the applicant applies, OR
d. The applicant must participate full-time in a program offered by an accredited trade school or other agency upon completion of which the applicant will be certified or licensed in a trade or profession, OR
e. The applicant must be engaged part-time in a program at an accredited university, etc. or accredited trade school and must demonstrate to the Committee reasonable commitment to the ultimate completion of a degree or certification. Under this requirement applicants will be considered on a case-by- case basis, and qualification is solely at the discretion of the Committee.
B. The Rules governing the award of scholarships are:
a. An applicant for a 2023 Scholarship shall submit the application and essay to American Valor Foundation on the form approved by the Committee (see following) accompanied by an official copy of your high school and/or college transcript(s) no later than April 14, 2023.
b. The Committee will notify all applicants of the decision made regarding their application around May 1, 2023.
c. The Committee will screen all applications to assure guidelines are met and will check references.
d. Each year, the Committee will award a designated number of $5,000 scholarships approved by the membership of the American Valor Foundation Board of Directors.
e. Applicants awarded scholarships who fail to remain successfully enrolled in their course of study and maintain a 2.5 GPA will not be eligible to receive the 2nd installment of their scholarship monies. Applicants will be responsible for providing the American Valor Foundation Board of Directors a copy of their completed Fall semester transcript, including name and student ID no later than January 15, 2024.
f. All scholarship monies awarded shall be paid on behalf of the successful applicant to the appropriate office of the accredited institution which the applicant will be attending. The successful applicant must provide the name of the institution, the name, address, and phone number of the office to which the monies are to be paid and any student ID numbers that are required.
g. Within forty-five days of being notified that he/she has received a scholarship award, the successful applicant must have contacted the Treasurer of the American Valor Foundation and provided the required details as to how the money should be paid to the applicant’s educational institution. If the scholarship recipient fails to make this notification by July 1, 2023 the scholarship will be forfeited.
